WILLIAM “BILLY” BATSON
Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up
Don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up
Don’t you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won’t let nobody hurt you
Won’t let no one break your heart,
And no one will desert you.
Just try to never grow up, never grow up.
Don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up
Don’t you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won’t let nobody hurt you
Won’t let no one break your heart,
And no one will desert you.
Just try to never grow up, never grow up.
"It’s not that I can’t be mean. I could cuss a bunch and kill all the bad guys and stuff. But… look, I can’t even drive yet. I don’t have a bank account. I can’t vote or drink and I haven’t been to college. I don’t understand everything. So until I do, I’m gonna use the power I have to do the right thing. Call me a wussy if you want… I’m just a boy trying to be a good man."

THE GOOD STUFF;;
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
When Billy’s, well, Billy, he’s a small eight-year-old boy with messy black hair, bright blue eyes, and a perpetual smile on his face. That smile’s just always there. He’s a small, skinny little thing, typically wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, a little on the dirty side, but his appearances don’t suffer much for it, and he’s just absolutely adorable, something which pretty much everyone agrees. He’s a major cutie.
However, after he says ‘Shazam’ and transforms into Captain Marvel, he looks quite different. He’s a broad, strong man, standing at over six feet tall and very muscular, with thick arms and legs. Captain Marvel always wears his hero-ing costume when he’s in this form, a red suit with a golden lightning bolt, boots, sash and a white cape with gold trimming. He can change out of it, but usually doesn’t, preferring to keep the outfit that is always on him.
How he, well, stands is a heck of a lot different between his forms, too. As Captain Marvel, he’s strong, tall, brave, with a smile for everyone, exuding such confidence… Someone who knows what they’re doing, for sure. But when he’s Billy… Sometimes it’s best to not be noticed, and though he’s got a smile for everyone, at the same time, he tends to duck down a touch more, doesn’t have as much confidence… Except when he’s around friends, though. Then expect a big ball of smiles.
PERSONALITY: …It’s very hard to describe one such as Billy Batson. There’s a sort of innocence that permeates him, despite the hardships that he’s gone through, and he’s an incredibly kind person, always accepting others and wanting to befriend them. He’s also lonely, too, lacking friends his own age as he’s unable to relate to them, instead tagging along with adults and older kids. The boy is just a kind soul, the purest soul that’s ever existed, actually, and is just one of those people who loves to love, spreading the joy.
At the same time, though, he’s a child, meaning he can be immature and not quite understand the magnitude of things, or simplify them down beyond what they’re supposed to be. He’s very excitable, and a bit of a chatterbox, loving to just gush about stuff and how ‘awesome’ it is, unaware of the fact that he can be annoying at times, unless told. However, he can be serious and be quiet, knowing when to stop and just let things go. Rarely, very rarely, is he angry, opting for sad at those times, and the few times his anger is roused, well… It’s a sight to see.
He can also be a bit on the gullible side, easily tricked, but he always accepts it with a smile and a laugh, not really finding any offense in it unless he's hurting someone. Billy also doesn't quite have the self-confidence that he wishes he had, confident in himself as Captain Marvel, the cool brave hero, but as Billy Batson... Not so much. He wants courage, strength, something more as Billy Batson, because maybe if he had more as him, someone would want him.
For the most part, though, Billy is a happy-go-lucky child, a boy who always has a grin on his face and love in his heart, possessing the purest soul in the world.
POWERS AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Wisdom of Solomon - The Wisdom of Solomon grants Billy the ability to understand and speak any language, as well know plenty of knowledge that he normally wouldn't, possessing smarts quite a bit above what Billy Batson would know, and gives him a great memory, too, unlikely to forget anything when he's Captain Marvel.
- Strength of Hercules - Captain Marvel has immense superhuman strength, rivaling that of Superman's (it's unknown how much exactly, but either the same strength, or, perhaps, just a little bit less. Certainly not stronger, though).
- Stamina of Atlas - With this, he can withstand most physical attacks, having good durability, can heal quicker than the average person, and can go longer than most without needing to eat, sleep, breath, or drink.
- Power of Zeus - This is the power that can transform him from Billy Batson to Captain Marvel, and in addition to that, grants him defenses (not invulnerability, mind you, but his defense against them certainly goes up) against magic. It also aids in interdimensional and time travel at the Rock of Eternity, buuut he's still trying to figure that one out.
- Courage of Achilles - The fact that Captain Marvel's not afraid of anything, and won't give up? A lot of that can be attributed to this, and it does help him have a slightly above average defense to mental attacks. Not much, mind you, but a little goes a long way.
- Speed of Mercury - With this, he can move at superhuman speeds (he doesn't know how he relates to the Flash, but boy, he'd love to find out!), and fly, too.
WEAKNESSES:
- Has to say Shazam – This word, an amalgam of all of the people he gains powers from, needs to be said in order to change him into Captain Marvel. If he can't say it, for whatever reason, he won't have any of his powers. Thus, gagging him is an easy way to stop him.
- Secret Identity – He's... not the best with his secret identity. Most of the opponents he face know it, and if he feels that a fellow hero won't judge him for, well, being a kid, then he'll easily reveal it. Naturally, that puts him a bit more at risk, especially when given the more time he spends in his actual form, the easier it is to get attacked...
- Still a Kid – Well, pretty self-explanatory. Wisdom doesn't equal maturity, so while he may be wise, via Solomon, so he's a little more likely to get caught up in jokes, goof off, not take things seriously... Just be a kid.
- Too Trusting – He's a trusting soul, Billy is, and while that's typically a good thing, because he doesn't have issues in that area, he's liable to trust those that, well, he shouldn't trust. Not with too much, mind you, but it gets him into a lot of trouble, believing people's excuses and then getting attacked when his back is turned, yeesh.
- Attention Span – Again, with the whole kid thing. He's easily distracted, losing focus on patrol to go chase after a cat, or bringing comic books with him, or any sort of thing like that. He really doesn't like being bored, and thus often does his best to prevent that, even when he reeeeally needs to focus.
- Inexperienced – Considering he's only been going at it for about a year, and he's seven? Yeah, Billy's new at this whole she-bang. The powers take a lot of control to handle, and, heck, his body does too. It's very different, to be in the body of a grown man versus a little boy, and he needs to learn to maneuver in it.
- Doesn’t like to Hurt People – If... he can defeat people without hurting them too bad, or talking to them first, then Billy definitely wants to. He doesn't want to hurt people more than mandatory, and while it's a worthy thing to strive for, it often makes things far more difficult than they need to be, and prolong fights longer than necessary.
- Others before Himself – Other people are always first. ALWAYS. Even if it makes more logical sense for him to get out of dodge first, he won't, because he can't stand the thought of leaving anyone behind, of letting anyone else get hurt on his watch... Even when it doesn't make tactical sense.
- Strong Magical Attacks - While more minor magical attacks are pretty easily shrugged off by him, strong ones... not so much. In addition to causing whatever damage it was meant to cause, it can also severely weaken him, and depower him, turning him right back into Billy Batson. Not a fun thing.
- Electricity/Lightning - Perhaps, considering how he turns into Captain Marvel, it makes sense, but if he's hit by lightning, then he turns right back into Billy Batson. High-Powered electricity also has the exact same effect.
GOALS: “To explore the SO COOL FUTURE. To make a lotta friends! Ooh, ooh, and to have a lot of fun and be a good hero!”
HISTORY: Billy was born to a pair of archeologists, a doting pair of parents, along with his twin sister, Mary. They were loving, wonderful, and he honestly, well… It was pretty perfect. He and his sister got along well, his parents were great and both the kids thought their work was SO COOL, so sitting next to them and watching was the best… It was just an enjoyable early life.
When he was very young, however, only about six years old, his parents had to go on a bit of a lengthy trip to excavate a dig. Billy was completely fine staying with the babysitter they had hired, but Mary begged, pleaded, and cajoled them, desperately wanting to go… And they gave in, so all three set off. Little did they know that their guide was secretly against them, was actually Black Adam, and he slaughtered them both, dropping Mary, who hadn’t seen anything, off with a family, and leaving Billy with no one.
Well, not exactly no one. He went to his next relative, his Uncle, who promptly inherited all the money that was supposed to go to Billy, took it, and then booted the child out on the streets. A six-year-old child, absolutely alone out there. Somehow, he managed to survive, living on his own (with his friend, Scott, helping out by smuggling him stuff) and actually managing to do it, for a whole year, roaming the streets of Fawcett City.
And then, one day, he found his eye caught by a man. He looked just like his father, and Billy found himself chasing him, hoping desperately that it was. Following him onto a subway, the boy found that he had disappeared, and he had been left at an odd stop… One where a Wizard and statues of the seven sins existed. It was there that he received his powers (he does have the purest soul in the universe, after all), learned to say the word ‘Shazam!’ so that he could transform into Captain Marvel, a grown man with awesome superpowers.
Needless to say, he was absolutely delighted.
It was one year, after that, that he was a hero. He battled Sivana, Black Adam, the Monster Society of Evil… He was, well, doing pretty good, he thought? He met Superman one time! And that was really cool! But, of course, the fact that he was quite young… really changed things, for one instance.
It was a discovery, made by pestering Shazam one day, that he could use his lightning at the Rock of Eternity (which he had been previously told to not do under any circumstances) to travel through space and time. Naturally, Billy was absolutely thrilled. That was so cool, to be able to do that!
Of course, the first thing that he had to do was test it out immediately. Without listening to Shazam. At all. Hoo boy.
And that, my dears, is how you get into the future by sheer accident.
THE NITTY-GRITTY;;
SCREENNAME: Poet!
Time spent roleplaying: Bout five-ish years~
Other Characters: Shikari and Sent Pryor!
RP Sample: Grinning, Captain Marvel peered into the living room, looking for Kid Flash. “Wally?” he called, the excitement fading slightly as he realized that the older superhero wasn’t there. Huh, where could he be…? The League member scratched his head slightly, features twisting into a mask of bafflement, before he patted the head of the wolf panting at his side. “Don’t worry, Wolf, we’ll find them,” the Captain spoke up reassuringly, before an idea came to him, and he squatted down, surveying the animal with bright eyes.
“Do you think you can find them?” he asked eagerly, giving the wolf puppy-dog eyes at it looked at him with that look. Kind of like the batlook. Funny, that! “Maybe they’re playing hide and seek or something!” Apparently, his pleading worked, for Wolf gave what was practically a sigh, and trotted off, sniffing. Sweet! They were totally gonna find them!
However, over the course of the next half hour, with dead ends, empty rooms, and no one answering his rather loud, booming calls through the building, Captain Marvel was forced to admit that they weren’t here. They had tricked him! How… How could they do that to him? The ten-year-old in an adult’s body sniffled slightly, but Captain Marvel didn’t cry. Billy Batson did, sometimes, but he wasn’t Billy right now, so he couldn’t. No matter how much he wanted to.
The emotion was quickly replaced by fear, however, when he realized who exactly he was going to have to report this to. “Oh, Batman’s gonna kill me!” he exclaimed, before promptly using his Wisdom of Solomon, as he patted Wolf one last time on the head and flew off, to come up with an explanation that wouldn’t sound as if he totally got tricked by a bunch of teenagers.
…Then again, if no one else was there, Batman did know who he was… Maybe he’d be nicer! …It was a comforting thought, at least…
